WinPE download FAQ

Frequently asked questions

MultiDrive WinPE is a bootable Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) that automatically launches MultiDrive after you start your computer.

It helps safely clone your original Windows boot drive because the Windows internal drive is not running. This means that file locks or background processes won't interfere with the cloning process.
WinPE is only needed when cloning the drive that Windows is currently running from (e.g. the only PC you have). For cloning data drives (non-boot), creating backups, or restoring backups, you can use MultiDrive normally in Windows. No need for WinPE.
If the USB drive doesn't show up in the boot menu or if Windows PE doesn't start, Secure Boot might be stopping it.

Enter BIOS/UEFI Setup and temporarily disable Secure Boot, then boot from the USB. After you finish cloning, you can turn Secure Boot back on.
